|
|
Hi folks.
I can't find this covered anywhere else so...
Working on car "tuning" principles where different air filters etc give improved performance, has anyone come across a similar situation for the GTS?
or is the ultimate performance still restricted by which variators, rollers etc used and the rev limiter?
I've seen the discussions on irridium spark plugs and shall prob give one a try.
Just wondered what other avenues have been explored.
Any thoughts _________________ And behold I was saved. |

The parameters of the GTS ECU wont cope with all that extra air and is not remappable,it needs someone to produce a new ecu but unfortunately it is part of the throttle body housing so I cant see it happening |

The ECU as standard doesn't have enough adjustment to cope brilliantly well with a open intake system, it struggles a little. There are various electronic add on's which help as would fuelling mods like increasing pressure, injector size etc.
The ECU is remappable, in its time piaggio has released several maps for dealers to upgrade them to, normally to remove bugs glitches etc, its not a problem isn't the ECU can't be remapped its theres no one willing to remap it due to cost, specialist tooling and the fact its so easy to the get it copied.
The GTS benefits as do most auto machines, from drive system mods like sports variators etc, and also good gains have been seen with valve and head work so I would look there before worrying about the tiny gains from a air filter. |

I agree with Thomas, head flowing, cam change and valve change would definetly see bigger gains than a nice lookin` air filter with induction roar, which would be better suited to carburrated models as fueling would be easier adjusted with the aid of a dyno. When I mentioned before that the ecu is not remappable,it was meant for the masses who dont have access to the piaggio digibox. |

Pm tuning's box is the same as the early power comanders so if you dial it in on a Dyno you get 2hp gain instantly over the air box, not much, but 17.2hp to 19.5hp is quite a jump and an increase in torque too. _________________

And end up with a bike that runs like a dog in anything but dry weather... I would spend the money on a decent variator and exhaust to make the most of what power you already have. |

I wouldn't want to encorage anyone to do it, lots of money involved for a start, so i won't argue the point too much.
The only thing I will say is how many tuned Lambrettas run without a filter at all and mine's been running fine for well over 18 months now rain or shine. _________________

You would get more gains from running a decent designed pressurised airbox, would mean some serious modification though.... |

Hmm tell us more of your pressurised air box Cheeky, sounds very interesting _________________ GTS250 its the future!!! A club wi owt a name sc. Bamberbridge. |

It would be interesting to try, but would probably involve frame modifying to allow a better route of air, you could try a scoop under the bike, but i think the air would be too dirty under there for any gains.... |
