|

Greetings all. I don't write here often, but have a good laugh reading. So g'day.
Have been having a few problems with my '06 GTS. She is standard except for a PM pipe. I've had power cut out when I'm off throttle. Unfortunately this has tended to happen mid corner, which is an unpleasant surprise.
My mechanic has checked all connections and the problem has recurred, so I have taked her back to the dealer, who I am not in love with as they make most of their money on Harley Davidsons and I always feel a little short-changed there.
Aaaanyway, after explaining taht all connections had been chacked, but my mechanic didn't have the diagnostic software, so that's what I have brought her in for.
They've just called to say they've checked all the connections!!!! Which they are going to get a nasty surprise if they try to charge me for. But they've found nothing wrong, but need her to stay overnight as they need a new tune to come from interstate.
So to the question bit...
a) How long ago did Piaggio release latest software update for GTS? (I am pissed off that the last two services, I have had to wait overnight for basic items - it was brake pads last time - to come from Melbourne).
b) anyone else had the same problem as me....and how did you solve it?
Thanking you in anticipation... |

I had this problem, eventually sussed out that the problem lay with the red kill switch.
Basically, every time I opened the seat it would nudge the kill switch slightly and although never enough to stop me starting the engine, the road vibration would cause the kill switch to activate as I rode along.
The answer, give the kill switch a good firm push to make sure it's definately off.
Or bypass it as suggested. |

Yeah - I reckon I'm with you on the kill switch...wet weather seems to be the enemy for me.
But can anyone help me with the software question. I'm slightly displeased that I have waited a week and a half to get in, then they have realised their stuff is not up to date. If the update is a week old, fair enough. If it's several months old, i am pre menstrual and in the mood for some blood sport |

The last GTS update was in Nov 2007 so its been a while now... get them to check the ECU firmware number on the diagnostic box under the "ecu info" heading and that will tell you if its been updated or not. |

Thanks Cheeky Thos. That's as I suspected.
So me having to wait for it to come from interstate overnight shows considerable bad planning on their part.
Oh grizzle and groan.
Ta heaps. |

That's what I would have thought.
It is a large motorcycle dealership. They specialise in Harleys. So I guess they are more used to communicating in grunts and smoke signals than dealing with software downloads.
It appears Melbourne is sending its hardware to them in a swap-over so thirs can get upgraded with the new "tune".
This is why I moved my business elsewhere, unfortunately I am the only GTS he deals with. |

Problem fixed. She was definitely running too lean before.
Now for some nice riding weather...
Cheers. |
