Saw, on another thread, that someone had painted thier engine case black and was thinking of doing the same.
Firstly, how difficult is to get the case off? Just a few bolts or more to it than that?
Second, what type of coating is recommended - can I get the case powder coated or will have to be painted?

Any advice?

if you mean the transmission cover, take the plastic bit at the bottom of the panel off, screw at front, nut at back end behind, (10mm spanner) then it's about 10 bolts around the casing plus the big clutch nut which you'll need a holding tool for (see rainham boy for a quality one Cool you also need to remove the air filter retaining screws and push the air filter up out of the way to give you clearance, and remove the dipstick (replace as soon as cover is off to prevent things going in there!) cover will need a wiggle to get on and off so worth a practice to get the knack before it's coated to prevent scratches on the new finish Cool

powder coating is best but will need the bearing removed from the casing first, replace with a new one when back from coating as they're only about £6ish from a bearing factors Cool

as for the bearing removal, some folks use heat some folks use a press to get it in & out.

if you need a powdercoater these are about the best out there AEROCOAT
