I think my clutch is on the way out (9500 miles,is that normal?) so looking for a replacement.

Is it worth going for the polini one,i see PM sell them?

Any idea on the cost of a standard one and best place to get one from?

Got one fitted in my GT,no difference,but cheaper than a std clutch,only difference is it doesn`t have a coolng fan on it Crying or Very sad

I currently have a J Costa variator which has added a bit of zip 0-40ish but lost some 50-80, so I'm going back to the original this weekend when I get a new belt.

PM exhaust is great for looks and noise though Twisted Evil

My experience of messing with the clutch is that you gain no extra performance but can alter the characteristics of take off dramaticially i.e by altering spring tension you will require more rpm for the clutch to bite, great on a tuned 2-stroke for scary take-off. I expect some aftermarket clutchs will reduce friction loss or have slightly altered pulley angles but doubt they offer much in the way of performance gain.

Its suprising to see one be worn that quickly... normally they will do double that.. are you sure it doesnt just need a service Question

Performance clutches offer a upgrade in friction material, but this is also means shorter life for the clutch drum, some offer adjustable spring pressure which allows you to decide at what RPM the clutch engages at and some claim improved responce from the fact they are lighter so spin quicker...

You wont see a speed increase unless yours is slipping though so dont expect miracles from one....

Take it off, and blow it over with compressed air, youll find lots of dust comes out, then deglaze the friction shoes and if you have some, give them a spray with a solvent cleaner like brake cleaner... make sure you also clean out the clutch drum and deglaze that as well!...

If its over 2 years old you should also regrease the twisting pivots on the torque drive pulley, but its more involved as involves stripping the clutch unit down....

Youll find if you just do the first bit, it makes a hell of a difference... the build up of friction shoe dust that sticks to the clutch actually acts as a lubricant and over time generates slipping and juddering...

Took my GTS in as it was starting to judder on launch, it was ready for its 3rd service, its done just over 8000mls, there not a bad set locally, and let me watch with a mug of tea too! replaced the belt £44 cleaned the clutch, and de glazed it, the variator and rollers were just showing signs of wear, but didnt have replacements, so they went back in after a bit of cleaning, {green colour} changed the air filter, oil filter and oil, I didnt think that was bad for £150, still could have done without spending it just now. Any comments CT? Id be interested in any price comparisons.

Yeah its a decent enough price, we do fixed price services on the 250s at £159 for the big one with belt, rollers, guides, filters, fluids and valve clearances etc.. includes everything apart from tyres.
