My GTS is nearing it's 10,000k (6,200m) service soon... problem is that I've lost my job recently and can't really afford the service, as I'll be wanting the belt and valves done at the same time.
Providing I keep the oil and coolant levels up, what's the worst that can happen if I run it for a few hundred more miles? What do you guys recommend? I won't be doing any motorway or long distance rides 'til next rally season, and hopefully have it sorted by then.
cheers. |

in my opinion leave it, it's not as if it's super critical, a time bomb waiting to go wrong just by going a few hundred miles past a service, just get it done as soon as you can afford it but don't take the piss or it could end up expensive _________________

I may be wrong but I don't think the valves need adjusting for a few more thousand miles _________________

Belt and rollers aint needed yet anyway... 10k service is a basic one, so wont be much... if worst comes to it change the oil yourself for £20 and get the next one done properly when belt and valves will be required. |

20,000km for belt and valves... so plenty of time as yet.
Use good oil... fully synthetic 5w/40 car stuff SL or SM grade |

Thanks cheeky.
Can only get 5w/40 at Halfrauds around these parts. The local "Piaggio dealer" won't sell or even order the stuff and even admitted that they never use it on any bikes they service. Won't be going there when I need the business doing. |

Thats bad, I have 2 Piaggio dealers within 6 miles or so, one dedicated scooter dealer who uses the right oil and the other who caters mainly for power rangers and greasers that uses the wrong oil....
Guess which one I use??? A lot cheaper too... _________________

yeah, it is bad... and you guessed it, it's a power rangers joint. It's the way he almost looked down his nose at me for daring to ask for 5w/40... funny really. |

Halfords is fine anyway... they do a big 5litre pack cheap which will do many changes |
