According to my Piaggio book, the GTS has a 9.2ltr petrol tank (that's 2 gallons in old money!), just a tad more than a Lammy in fact.
With the needle on the first red line, I put a fiver's worth in (near as damn 5 litres) and it was full.
Does that mean, that there is about four litres in reserve? and does anyone know how far I can go, say round town, after hitting red?

i usually just fill up when the orange light comes on
have done 30 miles with the orange light on but i'd rather not risk running out so at first sign of orange light i look for fuel _________________

Fuel guages may vary marginally, why not run it out with a gallon on the rack? 300s and 250s fuel economy may vary too, so it would be interesting to know, by the way I can get from my house to Bamberbridge on 2 bars on the fuel guage with the orange light on, oh thats no good to you is it, 300s have the old style fuel guage not the digital like 250s? _________________ GTS250 its the future!!! I can get just over 100 miles out of a full before the light comes on, but that is on a 250, have done quite a few miles with no fuel (according to the gauge) but like Mav says I fill up at the next opportunity when the light shows...
But that is a 250 not a 300 _________________

There is an easy way to find out how much fuel you have left. When the light comes on disconnect the fuel hose from the injector (it's a push fit).
Hold the end of the hose over a suitable container and turn the ignition on. Fuel will come out. Repeat the ignition on until the fuel stops pumping.
I have a 300 and when the light comes on I have roughly three litres left in the tank. I know I can safely do 50km when the light comes on (31 miles) and have a litre left.
The 9.2 litres Vespa quote is accurate. Using the 50km before I fill, the max I have had to put in the tank is 8.5l. I ride in Central London and get about 24-25km/l without fail. |
