ive tried fitting a new genuine piaggio drive belt and rollers this afternoon everything came off ok but when on refitting ive got a single washer that i dont know where it came from(im sure it belongs behind the variator but it then seems to be rubbing on the belt) i started it up and it sounded like a bag of spanners making a right racket something not right i revved it up without the transmission cover on and the casing that goes over the clutch wont go back on it seems that one of the clutch mounts is sticking out more than the other does this mean the clutch is knackered as well?
it looks like ill be going to pm tunning in the morning if this is the case for a new clutch
please help/advise if you can
cheers

OOUCHHH...To say reving it without the tranny cover is a bad idea is probably obvious to you now. As for the single washer, Now, there is a washer on the outer clutch nut (the nut that bolts on the out side of the transmission cover) and thats just a normal thickness washer. there are two washers on the variator nut one thick, larger dia one and one standard washer type. Then there is one shim washer between the two pulleys. There is nothing behind the variator at all. Best of luck at PM, hope you aint done too much damage. Whilst your there get yourself a few of their variator nut, they are far better than the standard ones. _________________

No. it may not be knackered, if you've ran it without the bell it could just be a clutch shoe sticking out and that may or maynot be simple to cure. the shim washer goes on the shaft after the variator but before the pulley with the fins on, ie between the two pulley halves. _________________

all sorted now so i big thanks to phil and smirnoff
its got a polini clutch in now and the scoot shop is ordering a set of springs for the original clutch so that ive got a back up as well the polini clutch is quite a bit lighter as well
but one concern is the guy at the shop seems to think there should have be a shim on the driveshaft at the back of the clutch as it was hitting the casings in side and making a right racket so he put a couple of thin shims on to bring it out and away i dont know if this is right but im mobile again with out any odd noises |
