I was taking my wife's GTS to work and it was going good-o and it just dies, revs to tickover then nothing.
Shop advises battery had it, at 2.5 yrs and 7000 miles. Ok batteries die I get that.
Shop has checked for possible regulator zapping of battery, looks ok.
My question is- how can I safeguard against being stranded for this reason again? It was a right pain and in itself not a major, but still stranded me.
Thanks for ideas.
PS. Can one take a battery out for trickle charge and then just hook it back in without upsetting immobiliser and EFI tune? _________________ Was at Brighton '62, always ridden my scoots everday from then on, beginning to think I have a slight problem! |

Get an Optimate charger, you can connect them to the battery whilst it's still in the bike and leave them connected indefinately. Thet monitor and condition your battery. _________________ Gilera Fuoco 500ie

Like has been said, get an optimate or 360T charger and wire a lead in direct, so you can stick it on charge whenever you want without the need for tools etc... well worth the money |

I will try and source the equivalent "down under".
Any specific parameters when searching for one of these, charging rate etc? in other words are they different to car ones?
Ta for help I like the current health of battery check idea.
I appreciate this forum's response help, Cheers. _________________ Was at Brighton '62, always ridden my scoots everday from then on, beginning to think I have a slight problem! |

In olden days when charging a battery I used to remove water plugs(or whatever) to let plates and mixture breath.
If doing that and leaving battery in scooter doesnt that let a sulphuric mist get close to bodywork?
Next question if I remove from scoot completely does that stuff the EFI brain up when I put it back in and connect back up?
Gee I love kick starts and carbs but gotta get with it. _________________ Was at Brighton '62, always ridden my scoots everday from then on, beginning to think I have a slight problem! |

You dont need to remove the caps, as the batterys are vented to atmosphere via a tube on the battery, which should lead down and out of the bottom of the bike |

Will do that charging in bike and relying on vent pipe.
What is answer if you do have to disconnect battery and take out re EFI/Immobiliser, do they need resetting?
Might as well thrash the battery thing to death while talking about it.
