So I put on the new exhaust (well, not new, but newly repaired).

I've never done that before and it seemed pretty straight forward. The bolts holding on the box and their homes were pretty corroded, so I copper greased them and worked them in and out a bit and that seemed fine. The nuts holding the pipe to the engine were very corroded and difficult to get to, but I whipped them off and cleaned them up and the new pipe attached ok except the oval plate that the buts hold up against the engine (and holds the pipe in place) didn't quite meet the body of the engine. Pulling the nuts up tight was making the oval plate flex but definitely not meet the casing.

I undid it and tried again a couple of times, but the pipe end seems tight against the engine even though the plate pulling it in place isn't.

Something I should worry about?...

i think thats ok dave as the oval plate is a clamp to hold the pipe onto the exhaust port ., if it was bending the pipe must be tight against the head so should be ok

It's my understanding that threadlocked nuts/bolts can be undone (maybe with a little more effort) they only stop loosening due to vibration.

Is that not right?

Possably end up pulling the studs out of the barrel? not necessarily a bad thing as you could replace em wi Stainless studs and brass nuts?

Pauls right. Stainless studs and brass knuts will stop them corroding like mine did on the GTS, if it gets too bad it's very expensive to correct.
