I thought it was a suspension locking problem, but I don't think it is now, so I thought I'd make a seperate post to avoid confusion (mostly mine!).
In normal operation, when you turn the key to On, the MP3 sounds a beeper - the same beeper that sounds when you engage or dis-engage the suspension lock. Also, any appropriate lights come on (light the handbrake light). When you turn the key to Off, all lights go out - no beeping - all is silent.
The symptoms I am having is that when I turn the key to Off I am getting lights coming/staying on. The suspension lock warning (same as the seat sensor) light comes on (sometimes) and the oil light comes on (dimly and flickering) and sometimes the engine light. Sometimes this happens after a few seconds, sometimes straight away, sometimes a couple of minutes. Sometimes these lights are accompanied by the beeper sounding and it sounds random, light there is a loose connection.
It's almost like the scoot can't quite decide if you've switched the scooter off or not. It's like it is flickering between On and Off.
When it does this, if I switch it back On, the engine won't start.
If I pull on a brake lever, all the lights go out and beeping stops and it behaves as it should. If I release the lever again, the lights and beeping continue.
Where I have found that if I switch On and the engine won't start, if I then switch Off, hold a brake lever and switch On with a lever still held, the scoot will then start.
It's almost like holding the brake lever makes the scooter behave properly!
Anyone know what I might look into? Or should I just take it to the dealer?... _________________ Do two and 1/4 rallies mean I'm not a scoot noob anymore? |

It sounds like a dealer issue to me, is it still under warranty?
Could it be a dickey ignition switch tho? _________________ Gilera Fuoco 500ie

I would suggest an earth problem. Check your battery negative to body earth is clean and tight. Also the body to engine earth. Sorry can't help with the location of this as I'm not too familiar with the machine, but it's sounds like a classic earth problem. If it's not these, it will need further investigation at a dealers. |

Curiously enough, all symptoms have stopped when I tried it tonight. I'll check all battery connections (and any other I can get hold of) and see what happens.
Thanks folks! _________________ Do two and 1/4 rallies mean I'm not a scoot noob anymore? |

Well it went to the dealers and they waffled about some possible problem with the temperature sensor and a solanoid getting condensation on it *shrug*.
It seems to be holding it's charge and not misbehaving, but this morning the temperature gauge read 34 degrees C and the odometer was in kilometers *sigh*. I can fix the odo, but the temp gauge being wrong is annoying - it's handy to know if the temp goes near zero when you're out and about, innit.
Anyone know if it's a simple check/fix thing? Ta. _________________ Do two and 1/4 rallies mean I'm not a scoot noob anymore? |

The sensor is in the Offside wheel arch below your feet... if you undo the small triangle-ish panel near ya toes, its in there behind the fuse box... but due to the other issues, ie lights etc... im suspecting a damp dash or corrosion on the multiplug causing the problem |

Damn thing is still having its weirdness even after the dealer took a look *sigh*
I'm pretty sure now, though, that it's just (!) something with the ignition. It is behaving exactly like when in the off position it thinks you are sometimes turning it on and off again about 10 times a second. It sometimes looks like it's almost fully 'on' when the key is in the off position: the lights come on, the fuel gauge moves up, etc.
The fact that it all calms down when you pull on a brake lever has to be something to do with the ignition, like you have to pull a brake lever before you can start the engine?
So... I imagine, though, that the ignition system is a devil to check out (if it was easy to take to bits it wouldn't be very secure?)
I don't really want to take it back to the dealer, but if I have to, can someone prompt me on what techy-scoot terms to use to describe the problem, because they obviously didn't get what I was saying last time.
Still a scoot-noob, me... _________________ Do two and 1/4 rallies mean I'm not a scoot noob anymore? |
