Hello all you wonderfully technically minded people...grovell..grovell...

my toolbox catch has snapped (GTS 250) meaning the toolbox (glovebox?) door hangs down as it won't close... this causes some slight embarassment due to the mags i keep in there...mainly carp fishing weekly ... i've bought a plastic catch to replace the snapped one but i'd rather attempt to rewire a space shuttle than attempt this operation without some assitance. i've tried to download the manual from this (excellent) site but having problems..

is there a simple answer?

thanks

if anyone ever has a problem like a snapped toolbox catch (they're plastic and a bit brittle). heres what you have to do (abridged version)..it took me 90 mins as i didn't know what i was doing!

remove toolbox and horncover:
- first remove the 2 plastic covers on the top of the toolbox (2 self tappers)
- remove the 2 self tappers either side which are revealed under these covers
- remove 4 self tappers at the bottom of toolbox
- remove large bolt located inside toolbox by the catch
- remove piaggio badge on horncover, remove self tapper, slide up horncover

with a bit of jiggling the toolbox will come away (though be careful not to stretch any wires) as you can do the job with the toolbox dangling.

to remove the old catch:
- use a bradol or something to push the brass pin that the catch pivots on
- best to WD40 the area first
- long nose pliers will be needed to pull the pin out the other side

dont disconnect the spring before you've worked out which way around it goes (it's not obvious).

refit spring to new catch

reverse the process

hope nobody ever has to do it, but if so i hope this helps.

good luck
