For some while now, I have been trying to find where my scooters take-off acceleration has gone. The scooter was unused for 11 weeks, and when I ran it again the peformance wasn't there anymore.
I had tested and changed everything in the transmission, so I decided to tackle the carburettor (Keihin, not Walbro). I pulled it out and stripped it, cleaned everything and put it together again. I didn't find anything wrong, BUT I found a tiny filter, the membrane chamber filter, which was rather dirty. So I cleaned it with some dishwashing liquid.
Result - the scooter is running much better.
There is no mention of this filter in any of the manuals, just a brief reference on page 192 of the workshop manual. It is on the upper side of the carb, held in a white plastic tube with a wire clip. The filter is cylindrical, about 1cm each way. So maybe all GT owners should add this to their regular maintenance tasks.
