the remainig warrenty is transferable they can do it at the first service stage......i think any good piaggio dealer will take it on!! Wink the first service is normally 500 miles -ish,i expect you will have to pay parts and lab Question its best just to ring and ask around Wink

Cheers Gavskin.. so do i have to get the warranty put in my name ? and what happens if i don't get it serviced as i am quite a confident mechanic and i could quite easily service it myself. ie: if it wasn't serviced by a piaggio dealer and i had a problem with the scoot could i take it to a piaggio dealer and expect them to fix it Question

1st Service should be done at 625miles (1000km) or within 4 months from new, whichever is reached first.

Any Piaggio dealer can do the warranty work, but only if the services are carried out to the service schedule and by a recognised dealership.

Cheers guys.. so in your honest opinion is it worth me getting it serviced by piaggio as i know i could quite easily do the servicing myself as i am fairly confident mechanic and i wouldn't be too concerned about stripping an engine down...but more of my worry would be the fact if i had niggly electronic problems and i persume by not having the proper diagnostic equipment it could be an issue, basically is it worth keeping up the servicing as i also want to change the variator/shocks and generally do some mods to it... Question I have only owned it for a few weeks and don't know too much about gts reliability and are there things that could give me problems even though i did the servicing myself.. Question Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Well the warranty issue and self servicing is a choice only you can make.

The worst that could happen is IF you got a problem and needed a dealer to look at it they would charge you...

They are a good reliable engine and dont have any specific issues so nothing much to say... make sure its had the exhaust recall done, And if possible get the ECU software update done.

with new cars now you can take them to independant dealers as long as they use gen parts. my local Dealer is a ktm guy gave me great service with the sale but a long way away and i'd like to support a local guy sp4u. will this affect warranty???? i know there are other good dealers on this site but your all to far.(nothin personal). hi laur

As long as its a recognised garage, they use genuine parts and do the service to the factory specifications then the warranty must remain valid.

Its no longer possible for dealers to say they must be serviced by the same manufacture, it was abolished in the EU change over.

Problem on the GTS models is... will this guy have the ECU machine to do the ECU checks as part of the service?? Chances are not... so if something did go wrong and it ended up going into a proper dealer, if they wanted to be a pain they could refuse the warranty as its not been serviced correctly as never had the ECU work done...

..not saying it would happen, but ive heard it in the past.

I know the exhaust recall is done and the scoot was only registered in nov 07 and only has 240 miles on it ,so would the ecu remap still be required so early on..And could you tell me roughly whats involved in the first 600 mile service ?

Question

Yes it might need the update done on the ECU, just because it was sold in Nov07 doesnt mean it was made then, it could have 06 software still...

Just think it was made, then shipped, then sat in a warehouse for how long?? Then sent to a dealer to sit in the shop.... then brought. Couldve all happened in 2 months, might have taken 10....

All depends how good the people selling it were really, did they do it before it went out?? Only way to really tell is ask them or plug it into the ECU box and find out.

As the updates only arrived beginning of Nov and the fact most dealers are clueless to them anyway, im taking a wild stab in the dark and thinking its not been done Wink

It could develop a erratic idle, the revs could stay high after shutting off the throttle and some have been known to stall at speed.

They dont do it all the time... just happens randomly.
