i used a cut down 1/4 drive socket, wobble bar and universal joint, put the socket on the grinder until it was as shallow as possible, but i'm sure it's a 10mm........ Question

You are right but the lammy brass nuts are 11mm so therefore less room.

Its cos they are m7... odd size, but coincidentally the same as a Lammy.
