ok, in another topic it was pointed out jump starting a scooter using a car as the donar vehicle was a bit dodgy and definatly so if the car was running (too much ampage) but jump starting scooter to scooter is ok.
now my question
now that some us have cig sockets in the toolbox (or wherever) to charge phones/power sat nav etc etc........
if the cig socket is wired directly to the battery (complete with in-line fuse) would it be possible to use the cig socket to plug in a pair of jump leads (with a cig plug one end crocodile clips the other) and jump start another scooter or would the wiring from the cig socket to battery fry???? _________________

Pass.
I get where your coming from but you don't see it done on cars ...jump starting from this way so presume it would more than likely feck it up

The cigarette lighter should be fused, and jump-starting through it would blow the fuse.

Thats not as much a jumper starter but a 12v to 12v battery charger.
You plug it into both ciggy adaptors and leave it to swap charge from one battery to the other, when enough has gone over it allows it to start.
You could jump start from a ciggy adaptor but you would need to have a bigger fuse, VERY good quality connectors and thick cables.. |

If you have 2 similar vehicles ( ie: cars ) you can put a lead from the ciggy lighters of both cars, and run the engine to transfer the electricity from the running car to the non running car. However, it would take forever to transfer enough electricity across in order to charge the battery enough to start the engine. If you connect the lead and immediately try and start the non running car, you are trying to 'pull' the electricity out of the good car, and the lead won't stand it. It will either melt the lead, or blow a fuse due to the high amperage being drawn. Better to use conventional battery to battery jump leads. Use good quality leads, or you will still get the same situation as described above. This info also applies to bikes. |
