I found out the reason my scooter came without mirrors! The right side mounting is totally chewed up and majorly elongated. I've tried using some chemical metal but it doesn't seem strong enough, the mirror just pulls up and out when I tighten the locking nut. Any suggestions? I'm using the SP4Y mirrors recently acquired from Smudger. |

Have it drilled out and metal inserts done (hellicoil stylee, but there are better ones about). _________________ GTS 250+PX 200+Dragster & Runner 180+ Hexagon 125+Hexaphoon project.

You need to have them repaired using heli-coils, or timeserts. Either will do, but heli-coils are more readily available. This involves drilling the thread out, then tapping with a special sized tap. You then screw in a spring like coil using the insertion tool, this creates your new thread, back to it's standard size. If you can't get a local engineering company to do it for you, the kit costs around £25. |

Can you not just tap out the hole from 8mm to 10mm? |

Its basically a stainless tube with a thread on the inside and the outside... much better than a helicoil IMO. |

I've used Helicoils in the past & they just don't last.
Also used Time-Serts and the threads are like new, never had a problem.
Personally I will never get anything helicoiled again.
Time-Sert also do Big-Serts - that are for when a helicoil goes wrong..... _________________ |

I looked into buying a couple of the kits & they are silly money if you contact the UK distributor.
I did however find a place in the States that did them at a much better price & will ship them to the UK.
They are - http://www.toolsqwik.com
Would be interested if anyone knows of somewhere cheaper though. _________________ |

the same company trade on ebay with shipping prices to the UK:-
TIME SERT STUFF ON EBAY
if you do get stuff shipped from the states make sure the box on the customs form is ticked to say it's "a gift" otherwise import tax can get really silly _________________

I actually got a kit from them & didn't get charged import duty - but it is pot luck....
Received it in about a week as well (which was nice). _________________ |
