|
|
My gts developed a misfire, like someone flicking the cut-out switch on and off.
Anyway after messing about with it I found the fault, it was the suppressor in the H.T. cap. A cheap, easy fix.
But now I have a new problem, on my way back from Brighton yesterday I had to pick my son up from his girlfriends house, when we went to leave it wouldn't start.
The batt. was dead flat.
We jump started it and got back to the end of our road before it cut out.(about 15+ miles)
By the time we rolled down to our house the lights were worse than a Lambretta.
I haven't done any thing to it today as I'd probably end up smashing the the shit out of it.
Oh well, theres allways tomorrow. _________________ big-7-s.c. [rally division] Darkside. |

Fault found.
A wire had worn through and was shorting the charging system.
The wire is one of the 3 yellow ones in the brown connector at the front of the engine bay under the seat bucket.
Sorted. _________________ big-7-s.c. [rally division] Darkside. |

Yeah, just looked at that, it's the same connector.
Mine was rubbing on the join at the front, I taped up the wire then cut a bit of pipe and put it over the sharp edge.
Seems alright now. _________________ big-7-s.c. [rally division] Darkside. |

well you can see by my post what i done to sort mine
i also put a meter over the battery to check the rectifier was doing it's job and keeping the voltage below 14.5v with the engine running and checked the battery held it's charge overnight by taking a reading with the engine stopped when i put it away at night and again in the morning and compared the readings.
those wires are the charging circuit and if anythings going to fail it'll be the rectifier and / or the battery, if you're really unlucky then the stator too. _________________

I've put a new battery on it just to be on the safe side, I haven't tested the old one yet, but I didn't want it letting me down.
The readings on the test meter looked o.k., so fingers crossed it should be sorted now. _________________ big-7-s.c. [rally division] Darkside. |

The GTS 250 battery is a YB10LB (make sure theres the proper tray fitted underneath it, and the vent tube sticks out the bottom of the bike, or when the battery gases during charging it will vent acid fumes over the frame which isnt very good ) Genuine ones are £49.99 and pattern around £30 normally.
The GTS 300 has slightly different charging so uses a sealed YTX14BS. Genuine ones are £72 and pattern £30 normally as well. |

I went out today to buy a new battery for the GTS, got a f*cking puncture
in the rear tyre on the Dragster, will try again tomorrow on the PX, I'll let you know how much I pay, I'm hoping it comes out cheap as it's from a battery wharehouse that has a trade counter. _________________ GTS 250+PX 200+Dragster & Runner 180+ Hexagon 125+Hexaphoon project.

My 250 had a YTX14BS on it already.
It must be a commonly used battery as the shop I went to had 3 on the shelf.
Cost about £30. _________________ big-7-s.c. [rally division] Darkside. |
