My dealer told me this, too. And the only time it gets used is when i take it to the dealer for servicing.
I'm just going to remove the damn thing. |

as far as i'm aware european law dictates that a motorcyle side stand must either have an electric interlock to prevent the engine running with the side stand in the down position OR the side stand must retract when the weight comes off it, these 2 options prevent the vehicle being ridden with the side stand in the down position.
the side stand is perfectly ok and usable on the GTs as long as you can guarantee that some idiot isn't gong to "have a look at the nice scooter" and in doing so take the weight, retract the stand and dump it on the floor and walk off, also we do seem to have been having extremely high winds lately and these things made up my mind that using the side stand was too risky and i removed it to take away the temptation of using it.
i don't think it's a design fault on piaggio's part, i just don't think it should've been fitted in the first place _________________

yes that's right , we americans don't get the side stand. but we do get some pretty little reflectors on the fenders!! God Bless america.
My wife has a nifty one on her Yamaha Vino 125, kills the engine when you kick it down. |

Obviously I'm an experienced motorcycle and scooter rider. One day I had to move a parked motorcycle that was blocking an entrance door. I put it back on it's side stand, checked it, then walked away from it. CRASH - down went motorcycle, and smashed the plastic fairings, indicator etc. That cost my company a lot of money. Needless to say, I don't like sidestands, and won't use 'em unless there's no alternative. |

I often use the side stand when parking at home, but wouldn't use it in any public place for fear of the scooter getting bumped.
My GT sidestand would spring back easily when the scooter was raised off it, but my GTS one sometimes sticks in the out position and has to be bumped back by foot.
