Started with scooters (legally) in 82. Done the whole lot now. Trials, cruisers, sports and scrambling & race track days in between. In 2002 traded in my Yammie R1 and have'nt looked back since. My mates thought I was nuts but most of them have some sort of scoot now. I can honestly say, in 82 it was great fun and now in 08 it's just as fecking great. I'm 43 now and still scootering around like a bloody teenager...........just with a bit more road sense. Do it - you won't regret it with a GTS. |

Hi Jimmeyg,
I don't know if I have the right to Welcome you, as I just joined myself. BUT as a GTS owner, I must chime in and agree on all previous points for the GTS. Also, sorry to hear of your injury but I would imagine a scooter would be far easier to adapt than a motorcycle for your needs. Ask around and find a good reputable scooter mechanic who can do your customizing. Sure, Scooter riders are generally a friendly lot but I think scooters bring out the best in all kinds of people, even bikers. I get allot of "big bad biker guys" who look like they'd just as soon spit on you-before shaking your hand, then they spot my GTS and smile and before you know it, we're trading stories and sharing secret biking routes with each other. _________________

Hi Jimmy and welcome. One of the guys in our club has a problem with one of his legs and walks with a stick, but he still rides an auto scooter. That's all the DVLA will let him ride. I also know of a guy who's right arm is 'dead', but he still rides a motorbike. Go for the scoot mate, you won't regret it, for the thrill of the machine, and the camaradrie of like minded scooter riders. |

yo jimmy , do it ! ive had traditional scoots, big superbikes the Gts is neither but has all the good traits and whats more the rally scene is a real buzz, i can honestly say nobody has given me any shit at rallies! to be honest most people are just sitting on the fence , waiting for an excuse to buy one. hope your disabilities mean the scoot can be easily modified and you can get back to fun again mate with a good set of peeps .

I had just moved to a new area and the local club was very much a "vintage only" group. A bunch of local boys who had grown up together. I show up on a twist-n-go and they were less than welcoming. At first I just wrote them off as a bunch of a**-holes, but I kept going to their events and being pleasant and now I get along fine with them. I think in any social setting there is going to be some doubt about a new person. It also has to do with the area. I live out of the city now and when I go back I don't sense that of lack of cordiality. I think the rural folks are more distrusting of new things. Now I see more automatics and less arrogance. It's always difficult being the one who initiates something. But I've known for over thirty years that the scooter scene is a rock-solid group of people. Of all the people I've met in life I'm still in contact with the guys that I got into scootering with at 14 years old. And we can go years without talking and then when we see each other again it's like we didn't miss a day (except more wrinkles and grey hair!).
Next weekend I will travel over 300 miles to meet up with some of my high-school friends for a reunion of sorts. Not a school reunion, I have no interest in that, we are meeting up because one of our old scooter mates is getting together with the band that he was in thirty years ago and doing a gig at a nightclub. So several us plan to get together and act like we're young again.
Good times - great memories! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/noble_soul |

Hello & welcome.
You wouldn't regret buying a gts.
Being auto. should make it easy to have modified. _________________ big-7-s.c. [rally division] Darkside. |
